Open Quantum Design (OQD) is a non-profit organization committed to fostering a large collaborative effort between academia, industry, and government. The OQD intellectual property forms the world’s first open full stack quantum computer and uses revolutionary trapped ion technology. It was developed by Crystal Senko, Rajibul Islam and Roger Melko at the Institute for Quantum Computing and Perimeter Institute’s Quantum Intelligence Lab.
To develop full-stack open-source quantum computer designs by fostering a collaborative community of diverse contributors.
To be a global leader in open quantum technology, driving breakthroughs that revolutionize science, industry, and society, in order to improve the quality of life for future generations.
To harness the potential of open quantum technology for the betterment of society, ensuring equitable access to its benefits, to foster an environment for innovation, and nurture the quantum workforce of the future.
Dr. Crystal Senko is an Associate Professor at the Institute for Quantum Computing and with the Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo. In the Trapped Ion Quantum Control lab, Senko’s research aims to harness the power of trapped ions as a scalable quantum computing platform. Dr. Senko is the Canada Research Chair in Trapped Ion Quantum Computing.
Dr. K. Rajibul Islam is an Associate Professor at the Institute for Quantum Computing and with the Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo. He is the Principal Investigator of the Laboratory for Quantum Information with Trapped Ions (QITI), where his research focuses on quantum simulation of frustrated spin models and quantum computing using laser-cooled trapped ions.
Dr. Roger Melko is a Professor with the Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo and an Associate Faculty member at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. His research includes the development of algorithms and codes for the study of quantum matter, materials and devices. Dr. Melko is the founder of Perimeter Institute's Quantum Intelligence Lab.
Greg Dick is the Chief Executive Officer for Open Quantum Design. Greg has extensive non-profit leadership and governance experience, including serving as a senior executive at Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. Greg is an accomplished author, having written several physics publications and textbooks. He is also an entrepreneur and founder of RESILIENT, an agency dedicated to helping organizations build for resilience against unexpected change.
