100 Quantum Computers
Our audacious idea: To systematically narrow the global wealth gap by radically democratizing access to the next technological frontier. Over the next decade, we will build 100 fully open-source quantum computers worldwide—prioritizing Africa and the Global South—to make quantum hardware, software, and training a shared global resource, enabling prosperity for all.
Each generation-defining technological revolution—the industrial, digital, and now AI—has arrived with promises of prosperity and a better life. Yet time and again, these promises have failed to reach all. Instead, they’ve fueled unprecedented wealth inequality, concentrating power in the hands of the few. Those who control technology shape who benefits from it—and who is left behind.
We now stand at the precipice of the Quantum Revolution. Unlike anything before, quantum technologies represent a leap in how we understand and solve complex challenges—from energy and climate to healthcare and beyond. By harnessing the fundamental properties of nature, quantum computing has the potential to transform our world.
Open Quantum Design (OQD) is the world’s first open-source, full-stack quantum computing non-profit. Backed by a decade of pioneering research, cutting-edge hardware, and a seasoned team, we’re building a global ecosystem rooted in openness and equity.
By partnering with regional leaders across Africa and the Global South to co-build open quantum systems, we will unlock local capacity, accelerate training, nourish talent, and fuel innovation worldwide.
